Job Description
NNL is seeking an engineer to conduct research and testing of
reactor core materials and systems with a focus on test sponsoring
of irradiated poison materials. Specific responsibilities include
cradle to grave test sponsor duties, overseeing all aspects of
tests including inception, sample creation, oversight during
irradiations including specifying test conditions, post irradiation
examination, and reporting results.
Required Combination of Knowledge and Skill
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in
engineering or science related field and 4 years of relevant
experience; or Master's degree from an accredited college or
university in engineering or science related field and 2 years of
relevant experience; or a PhD degree from an accredited college or
university in engineering or science related field; or Currently or
previously NPE qualified; or CTE/ACRS and 1 year EOOW qualified in
the Nuclear Operations Program; or Watch Instructor and Refueling
Facility Area Refueling Engineer and 1 year as SRE.
Preferred Skills
- Experience in materials testing and characterization including
metallography, electron microscopy, and analysis of test
results
- Experience/understanding in material fabrication processes,
including both ceramic and metallic materials
- Experience with performing structural, thermal, or nuclear
analyses of materials or components
- Experience with design of experiments or other laboratory
background
- Demonstrated ability to clearly communicate technical information
both verbally and in writing
- Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment

Pay Range
$83,600.00 - $130,700.00 annually
Salary information provided is a general guide line only. Annual
salary is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as
well as market and business considerations
The Naval Nuclear Laboratory is operated for the U.S. Department of
Energy (DOE) by Fluor Marine Propulsion, LLC (FMP), a wholly owned
subsidiary of Fluor Corporation. Naval Nuclear Laboratory personnel
are FMP employees who work at four DOE facilities: Bettis Atomic
Power Laboratory, Knolls Atomic Power Laboratory, Kenneth A.
Kesselring Site, and Naval Reactors Facility, and at the U.S.
Department of Defense-owned Nuclear Power Training Unit-Charleston.

shipyards and vendor locations. For nearly 70 years, the Naval
